Talking I got Ziva to step up! Pics and maybe vid..

I used the dowel to transfer her to our large coffee table that I covered with a blanket. I put her dishes on there, and some colored wooden blocks to see if she'd play. What I didn't expect her to do is ask to step up, and then do it! She seemed alittle nervous at first... was looking around, etc. However, she started her burping and other noises she makes, and before I put her back, she looked like she was 'smiling' the same look I see on the conures when they're happy! She did have a 'stress poo' though... so that's when we 'called it a day' and I put her back on her perch. She did great, even stood on my son's arm also! I don't know how the video turned out, it's still loading. Probably very dark...but if it's good enough to see anything, I will post that too! Happy happy day here!!! Wooo Hooo!!!

Here's some dark video.. but you can see the leaning down and wing fluttering that I was talking about her doing the other night. A little hard to see, though.

That is so great! You really have a way with the little difficult ones. Your whole family it seems!

I love her name also. NCIS is my FAVOURITE tv show. I think that in no time, her feathers will grow back in and she has hilarious ninja-bird skills like her namesake :)

I would very much like to offer a home to a bird similarly neglected one day but happily for the birds there are very few here to rescue since they and macaws cost upwards of $6000... It seems you have so many there in need of good homes like yours.

Great job guys!!!! The leaning down and wing fluttering just looks like typical beggin to me. She quit when she was picked up I noticed. She may only know that she wants "something" but isn't sure what she wants, or maybe she wants to fly. Hard telling. Regardless, she sure isn't agressive, is she!

She doesn't appear to be, no! Glad to know you can 'interpret' her behavior! I was reading that leaning down/in could be 'get out of my space' but I just didn't feel that off her... I don't know if being picked up is what she wanted, but she sure lifted her foot as soon as I reached for her!! She went up my arm to my shoulder, too, but I cut her off with my other hand and just had her sit on my other hand. I don't know if she's used to shoulders, but I don't want to start anything that could end with me getting bit. We're still feeling each other out, and she does startle kinda easy...so I didn't want to push my luck!

Thanks, but I KNOW there are a ton of people on here who do way better than I do with birds! I think I got lucky with Ziva... she just doesn't seem to have a mean bone in her... and I got a lot of advice from a lot of people here from the boys on. I hope, though, that all the birds know how much they are loved... and maybe that helps. I agree she's a beautiful girl.. and I'm glad that she hasn't lost her trust in people too much. I was very nervous about my kids handling her, but she's done well with them. Now if I can just get my wife over the bump... I think she'll keep getting better as she gets more comfortable and feels more secure. She certainly gets enough attention!
