It's a girl!

I finally heard back from the vet's office...it's only been a week and a half..and three phone calls.. So Ziva's a girl... officially...and her lab work all came back 'normal' They said the chlamydia was negative. I asked about her having it anyway... like dormant or whatever where it wouldn't show on the test, and I was told they did a DNA test for it...which would show if it was active, dormant, or if she'd even been exposed to it...and it was negative. I was told that I could safely move her in the same room with the others. Is this true? Is there more than one test for it..so maybe this test really could show if she had it in any way, shape, or form? She also said something about giving her hormone injections (progesterone maybe? I forget..) or an anti-anxiety med to stop her from plucking. Now I wouldn't be a fan of this even as a last resort... not unless she was ripping herself open or something. She said that if she hasn't gotten any better about this after about six months, then to contact them about these 'options'... ummm... NOT!! Some of the pins on her upper chest have opened...so she has some new 'down'...but I'd also swear that there were a few new pins on her chest lower down at some point that aren't there now.

That doesn't really surprise me, given the move, new everything.... as long as she isn't making open sores or anything we'll worry about that much later.

Congratulations Jag!!! I thought Ziva was a girl. I didn't realize there was any doubt. How is she?

All I had was second hand word from a not so reliable source that said she'd laid eggs in the past...so it wasn't really 'confirmed'..and if she could have been laying eggs with their calcium issues I'd want to know. She's settling in...she talks nearly non-stop...either in words or a variety of interesting noises! She can pick up just about anything if she hears it once! We're finding that if she doesn't like a food... it becomes a missle! She's nearly beaned me several times with chunks of fruit! She's a riot! She wanted to 'play' with me again the other day (please pet me.. no..I'd rather bite you!) but I saw her eyes... so she gave up and just took the scritches. Silly bird! She still seems to prefer me, but we're working on getting my wife more comfortable with her and vice versa. The kids adore her...and she will talk up a storm to them, too! If the conures get too loud upstairs...we hear this Pom barking madly.. then the cat fight! LOL My neighbors are probably thinking we're sneaking animals home in the middle of the night! She's really a lot of fun.

Yeah it a girl! Girls rule!!!!!

You know my vet says when all test come back and they are good that I do not have to keep them in separate rooms. As he said it is impossible to have a good quarantine anyway unless you have separate air systems and you take a complete bath between handling birds. He gave me a list of quarantine points and believe me there is no way I could have done it efficiently.

Of course, it is your call in the end. I am sure that you will get a bunch of replies!

congratulations on your girl! I'm glad her tests came back OK. I know this is weird but I think birds look pretty when they're plucked, like wearing little downy coats.

Wonderful news that she is disease free. I can't wait for the stories when the upstairs crew gets to see her!
