Exclamation Brazilian nut stuck on beak

Our TAG was enjoying a brazilian nut that came in the bag of his seed mix. We found him with the nut completely wedged onto his bottom beak and he was unable to get it off himself. It took some serious but gentle tugging from two of us to get that thing unstuck. No more brazilian nuts in this house.

Brazilian nuts are good for them once in awhile. Crack them for him so they are in smaller pieces. Anything can be dangerous, please dnt bann it because of one accident. They are great for foraging as they have to work at them to get the nut out and they are great for beak conditioning as well as essential nutrients.

Same thing happened to Skyy when she theifed my earring back. It was stuck on her bottom beak and she still didn't want to give it up. glad she didn't swallow it though, that's usually where things she's not supposed to have goes, down the hatch!

AGH! Bee can nab an earring (as in pull it off in one swift movement) in TWO SECONDS. And BOY does she not want to give it back! RAH! Cheeky little devil. -.-

Zimba managed to get a jingle bell out of a soda bottle and got it stuck so tight on his lower beak and proceded to climb all around his cage which made it even more tightly wedged on. No matter how hard we tried to get it off we couldnt. We ended up taking him to the vet for removal. She had to put him to sleep to remove it with needle nose pliers. He was fine afterwards and singing away. No more jingle bells for Zimba. That ten cent jingle bell ended costing us 85 bucks to have it removed.

Yes - Jingle bells are a bad thing for birds I will agree. They are often in cat balls used by bird owners. And now they make little plastic ones that are even more dangerouse because they break easy and have a tiny metal ball in them.

yes...there are alot of things out there that can hurt our birds. we need to be careful and evaluate what we give them.

With that said, I had something get stuck in Emma's beak as well. It scared the crap out of me, and the lesson learned, is i need to cut up things I think my get stuck on her....Her beak is much thinner on the bottom then the others .
