Ziva has started to play with toys!

Ziva has been introduced to toys... and we've added a few now that she's in a bigger cage. She has used one to 'swing' it and then stick her head out so it scratches her head as it goes by. She's creative! Today I saw her playing with a toy without just using it to scratch herself with. So she's finding that it might be FUN to play with all of these strange things hanging around in her cage! Even more fun...she has plenty of room in there to walk around hanging from the ceiling. It's her favorite place to be! She just walks all over... making all kinds of interesting noises and saying "Hi, Ziva!" which I think is great! However... when I was cleaning up that room and running the vaccuum, I slipped. I don't remember what it was I did, but I said "Oh, s***!" and she promptly repeated it in less than a minute. Luckily she only said it once... and I think she already knew it given the language she came with.... but I haven't slipped in front of her up to this point, so I think that's not too bad! I didn't react other than to say 'please don't repeat that' and she didn't say it again.

She's been really funny while we were watching a movie... rambling the whole time and making some really funky noises! I need to get a playstand set up going to connect to her cage. She's starting to want to venture off the cage...

That is so wonderful that she is starting to enjoy being a bird! I love hearing stories like this about birds that had a bad beginning, and thanks to people like you thrive and become the birds they are supposed to be!

I can't remember, is she expected to grow her feathers back??

Sorry, Emily! NO, not meant to torture you for sure! Thanks, it's very exciting to see her opening up and acting 'normal'. She was bashing around another toy awhile ago... had to encourage that! She 'can' grow feathers back... she certainly has had enough pins.... whether or not she'll allow them to come back is another thing. It's all uncertain at this point. I see her pull out some pins, but others she leaves alone and has a little more down than what she did. I am guessing that as she settles in more it will be easier to tell if she'll stop. I've heard it's near impossible to get them to stop, but we're doing what we can, and the rest will just be up to her. Either way she's a beautiful girl... but I do hate to see her nekkid and think about heat loss in the cold months, etc.

She's loving her new cage, though... the space and the toys she's now interested in. We'll have to keep on watching and see how she does!
