Talking The Coolest thing just happened!

I went down to give Ziva breakfast and uncover her... and as I usually do, I told her "Hi,Ziva! How are you doing? Do you want some head scritches?" I used the same excited but quiet voice I have always used with her.. and she tried to regurg. for me! She let me give her head scritches, and kept tilting her head looking all cute... then did it again! I thought it would take much, much longer (if ever) to see such a display of affection!! I'm really happy that she's decided to settle in and trust so quickly!!

Thats amazing! You must be some sort of bird whisperer = )

I think she knows shes in an awesome forever home and that only good things will come to her. This is a big deal for birds, I feel like they can sense when they are safe and that they WILL be safe. Thats wonderful news!!

Nope.. no 'bird whisperer'... just providing what I hope is a safe loving environment! Maybe they just DO settle in that fast, but not from what I've read... Either way I was shocked! She's always very excited to see me...but hasn't ever done that before! Thanks! I hope she does realize this is it...

She still isn't big on being touched (I've only had her 'step up' and handful of times) which makes me more surprised.

I'm very sorry to hear you lost your grey! She isn't clipped, but I have other flighted birds and we're very careful with them. She was neglected and is still too weak to fly at this point. I honestly don't think she's ever flown as she was kept in a very small cage that she couldn't have opened her wings in. She does like to open and flap her wings, but can't get any lift because she has no muscle to do it.

I hope that you'll be able to find your guy soon... I'm sure you've put the word out to vets, shelters, etc. Maybe someone's found him....

congratulations! Must be so funny to see a bird that big do that. My birds are all "baby" birds. My Meyers who adores my husband has been for the last few days stretching her neck, bobbing her head and opening her mouth when I pick her up and talk to her. I take it as a good sign :)

congratulations! she loves you! She must appreciate all the spoiling. Neglected, rescued animals know who saved them and will reward you with a lifetime of devotion.
