Do we think they are reading our minds???

FYI,
I saw an interesting segment on Animal Planet. Here is a link to the info.
http://media.animal.discovery.com/fa...in/tunein.html
They had an amazing African Grey. It used sentences, and had some ability to describe what pictures its owner was looking at without seeing them itself. They said it was 23 for 70 in a telepathy test using pictures from sealed envelopes, with the owner out of sight from the bird. It was amazing.
I have been suspicious of our African grey sensing when I'm getting ready to leave for a business trip (before she sees the luggage).

Do others think they may be reading our minds???

I'm sure they can sense what is going on as we tend to think about things a lot. Like children, birds like to know whats going on, where you are going to and for how long, so it's always best to tell a bird in advanced.

In the segment the African grey was very specific. When In leave, I always tell my African Grey 'Jazzy' how long I will be gone. I'm going to start watching her behavior ahead of when I let her know I'm going.

Yes!!!!!!!

You bet i do!

These birds know too much about what is going on before it happens to ignore the idea that they may be reading our minds in some way.

It sounds silly but these birds are learning about stuff that they couldnt possibly know about and blabbing about it LOL.

I just hope they don't mess up christmas around here hahahaha

I thought about mentioning this the first time I posted in this thread, however I didn't. I wouldn't exactly call this a coincidence though here's something that happened to me...

I saw a photo of a birds leg that had become yellow and in the middle of it there was a spot of blood. This was at the birds 'ankle' right where the feathers taper off and you can first see the scales of the legs. It was a bit on the inside, and the bird was of course picking at this spot. After I posted a reply, I started getting this itching feeling that hurt right above my foot, and it was a good few minutes before this feeling went away.

I haven't had this feeling before, especially in this area, and I wouldn't call this a coincidence because of the fact that I have talked to people over the internet without seeing them before, not even in a photo, and was able to guess at the color of their hair, their eyes, or the color of something that they are wearing (or even guess occasionally at what type of clothing they are wearing), and have done so 60-80% of the time.

What I am saying however, is that people and animals share this bond between their minds, that to us humans atleast (most of us), this bond goes unnoticed, however most animals are able to sense it, which is probably why they are able to know whats happening before we do something and so therefore are more aware of their surroundings, which means they know when earthquakes will happen, or a storm is approaching, etc.

I saw that segment too and it blew me away. Far more than coincidence, this bird was right on the money. The experiment involved removing the owner from the birds sight. She was more the 55 feet away in another part of the home.

The owner was given an envelope with something like 50 photos that she hadn't seen. She was told to simply look at the photos and concentrate. Of 50 photos, the grey perfectly described 22. She was also correct on others, but more from her perspective than that of the viewer. An example being of a shot of a car parked with a human's head extended out of the window. The grey loved riding in cars and often asked her owner to "hire a car" so they could go driving. When the grey "viewed" the photo, instead of commenting on the car, she commented on why the man's head was out of the window. She was quite correct about the photo, but didn't describe the fact that it was a parked car. That was considered a "miss". I think it was dead on. So, even though she scored less that 50% of the time, it was often due to OUR conception of what was being viewed.

That was the most amazing test I've ever seen on ANYTHING in my life, much less a bird.

I absolutely think they have additional senses. We probably do as well, but don't have to rely on them. I assume that if we DID, we'd also be more in tune with our surroundings.

a little bit of everything....

I think that there must be some birds that can read our minds some of the time. I would love to see that segment, it sounds amazing.

I think that most of the time though, when we think they are reading our minds, they are picking up on our "cues".

When you are leaving for a trip, there are certain actions that you take, and certain things that you do. The birds will definitely notice this and realize that you are going away for awhile LONG before the appearance of luggage. Mine seem to even know if I'm leaving, If my husband is leaving, or both. They sense our moods and our actions, from the noises we make, how we act, and how we feel. Birds are very perceptive creatures, they are designed that way by nature to be able to survive.

This concept also goes for if it is a weekend or holiday, when it is time to leave for work or for the store, when it is time to go outside, or time to take a shower.... or WHATEVER. We unintentionally give off cues.

On the other hand.... I can have a very screwey schedule, and my folks or my hubby have told me MANY times that they knew I was coming home because the birds said I was. (I've had this happen with two dogs in my life too). This happens even when the human has no idea I'm coming home or when to expect me at all. It's even happened when I've come home early. There's definitely some sort of 6th sense thing going on there!

Here is the link to the project they are talking about.
http://www.sheldrake.org/nkisi/

It was on Animal Planet last week or so, and I thought it sucked because of the many commercials and thehost was an *******, but that's beside the point.
You'll get a good idea of what the African Grey part was all about from the link.

I agree, that guy who was the host almost ruined the show. What were the producers thinking???
Thanks for the link.

I wonder if they have thought about trying that Bird on the World Poker Tour...
