Thanks John for always tellin it like it is!

yep, you have a hormonal zon. Males tend to be more hormonal then females(imagine that?) ya just have to learn his body language to learn to avoid a bite. Yellow napes and blue fronts tend to be more excitable, then the other species in the amazon family.
I've been lucky with my Male DYH. he's been with me for 16 years. I have only been nailed 3 times, tho, all three bad enough to leave scars.

congrats!! you have a very hormonal, sexually maturing amazon! these are called his teenage years. i do NOT envy you, lol. Ive only had one amazon that actually liked me, but he was already about 15? years old and by that time he had calmed way down, and he was very sweet. EVERY bird goes through this period, its rough on both the owners and the bird, and you just have to suck it up and keep trying to handle your bird. he should calm down after a couple of years.

Im not sure about this, and i havent tried it, but i heard someone say that you can give them herbal stuff like lavender to help calm your bird down a little bit, kinda like getting them to relax?? ive never tried it, and i would never try it unless our vets say it was 100% safe, but this is just an idea i had heard of. maybe someone else has tried it or heard of it and can shed some light on the use of the herbal stuff?? but me personally wouldnt do it unless we knew it was safe.
