wing clipping

I have several questions. When I bought my red lored amazon, his front feathers were clipped. The front wings were growing out and I took him to the local vet, they left those and clipped his very back wings which were the red and blue. I am now confused as to which was the correct wing clip. I also travel some throughout the year and am leaving Poncho with my daughter. Could you give me some advise to what I need to do when I leave him?
Thanks
Daphna
