I'm pretty new to this board too. I also have a BFA, Pico, who will be 2 in Feb. He was an adoption as his previous owners could no longer keep him. He was very anxious when we got him. He would step up and didn't have a problem leaving his cage, but he didn't like to be touched at all. As you have noticed by now that it takes time for them to build their trust. Pico now lets us pet him, he gives kisses and likes to have his head scratched. He even lets me kiss his foot. We have only had him for 3 months.
We keep hearing that BFA's are "one person birds". Well not Pico. He wants whoever takes him out of his cage first. He loves my husband just as much as he loves me and we love him.
With time, lots of attention, work and praise BFA's can overcome almost anything!
