Wow, what a story. Thank God you found him! I agree with Mary also, get him checked up at an Avian Vet. Good luck! He sure is beautiful!

May I ask where you are from? I am just wondering if the bird has a leg band also. This bird had to have belonged to someone and I am glad he/she found you. I can only imagine what could of happened if you didn't find him/her.

such a wonderful rescue story.... If you hadn't checked out these links for missing birds might want to try. Sometimes they can be found hundreds of miles from where they started.

I love that story! I have only read about Amazons, but isn't that a more rare doubleyellowhead Magna? Looks like a rare bird found you. I'm sure it doesn't make any difference to you, but isn't that kinda neat? If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me, but you'll still have a very cool new friend.

Most Amazons are attracted to red. It catches their attention and in some cases seeing the object can scare them. When working my birds on color discrimination, red it the color they generally go to first. Blue is the last color.
As to the room being red........red is a very stimulating color and stimulation is not really what you need with an Amazon. If you see that it is getting him too excited, you might want to drape his cage on three sides with a cloth so that the front is left undraped. Sometimes red fingernails get birds upset but it has not been determined if it is the color of the nails or the odor of the polish. As to taking your bird out of his cage.....by now you probably are past that point. It is best to handle Amazons with a perch when taking them out of their cages during the spring time. This generally applies to male Blue Fronts, Yellow Napes and Double Yellows as they are easily excited. Excited Amazons are prone to bite. As others have suggested, he should be taken to an avian vet and have a well-bird check including bloodwork. This should be done with all newly acquired birds. This should be done once a year with birds unless they are not coming in contact with other birds....then you could probably do a well-bird check every two years.
