Question Blue Front Amazon's behavior

I feel stupid asking these questions, but how do I know if my female blue front is reaching sexual maturity?

A little background.................
I have a blue-front that is a rescue bird. She has adjusted quiet well to our family. She was found behind a dumpster with her foot band removed. Her age was estimated to be 8mos to a year. Now I am wondering if she is older.

She is my daughter's bird and loves to be cuddled and pet. However a week ago she started clucking and grunting when she was pet on her back. My daughter stopped petting her and we have since seen her back up to her water bowl, cluck like a chicken and sometimes she fluffs with her wings quivering.

My other birds are yound birds, CAG 18 mos, Double Yellow Amazon 2 yrs. I have no clue about a bird's behavior when they reach maturity and the do's and don'ts. She doesn't act sick, very vocal and talkative, eats well. What is the behavior of a female reaching sexual maturity. Are we just dumb humans?

Exactly as your have described, hormonal hen. I don't know specifics about BFA but yes don't touch the back. She can still have head scritches.

Blue Front Amazon's behavior

She isn't aggressive, I just didn't want to encourage the behavior. I know you said you didn't know specifics on BFAs, but maybe you might have an answer for these questions. Do you think that puts her age around 3ish or do they display that type of behavior on the onset of sexual maturity happening soon. Is this a seasonal display of behavior? My double yellow that is 2 yrs 2mos has never done anything like this.

Sounds exactly like what my female blue fronted amazon does when she's hormonal, primarily in the spring. She does it in the spring if she's up on my shoulder, which is a bit disconcerting. When she does the clucking and quivering she gets off my shoulder and goes right back to her perch.

She's about 10. She started doing it a lot when she became very bonded to me.
