I have the first question for you.

My 21+ year old overweight YNA was out of his cage the other day and laid down on top of 2 blocks and fell asleep lying down on his tummy. With his feet behind him no less. No one I have talked to has ever heard of it and I am a bit concerned about the behaviour. He slept for about 15 minutes got up like nothing ever happened. I even got a picture of it. Is this normal? What is your take on this? Thanks!!!! Barb

Amazons do some strange things. I have a BFA that takes his naps by putting a plastic ring around his neck. He doesn't do it when he goes to
sleep at night but does it only for afternoon naps.

I have another bird that fell madly in love with my husband's left tennis shoe...was not interested in the right one or any other tennis shoe. Just that one. When my husband wore out that pair and threw them away, the
bird never gave another look at a tennis shoe.

If your Nape does not repeat that posture, I would not worry about it and just write it off as another wierd thing that an Amazon does. If this becomes the standard posture of the bird every time it sleeps, I would take it to the vet for a check up. If the bird is falling over into this posture, it could indicate something is wrong. If he is just sleeping with his feet out behind him, it is just one of those things. Amazons are very funny birds.

As some of you are aware, I have two books on body language of parrots. Amazons have a very rich body language but they also do some very odd ball things. It was one of the problems I had when writing the books. I had to see the posture several times by several birds before I would put it in the book. I did not include all the little odd ball things that many of these Amazons do.
