What signs are there for a bird if it is getting older versus a younger bird?

The only SURE way to tell the age of a pet bird is if it's closed banded with a band that has the year of hatch on it. Once a bird has adult plumage there's no really reliable way to tell if it's a young bird or an old bird.

I don't know about other birds but you can ROUGHLY guess the age of an African Grey by the colour of it's eyes but only up until a certain age, five to ten years or so I think??

There's a real difference between the the eye colour of my young (hatched last spring) Greys...







......and the eye colour of Henry who is about 45 years old...
