Need recommendation for wing clipping...
Hi Joanie, you were recommended to me by a person on the FeedingFeathersChat site....I've lately been in contact w/several of the parrot groups on the Yahoo groups site after last week when my 7-year-old YF Amazon, Chile, gave me a really vicious bite on the upper lip. The last 3 months he's been (so I discovered from the group) exhibiting aggressive behavior associated w/a sexually mature Amazon--due to my unwitting (AKA stupid) behavior of allowing him to have sex on my shoulder and allowing him to take food from my mouth. (Really, I've done penance right up to slitting my wrists, and now I'm trying to retrain Chile--and myself). One thing the group recommended was to have Chile's wings clipped temporarily (I have always been so opposed to taking away an animal's magical ability to fly, but I see the point of it now). However, I've heard stories of people having their birds' wings clipped, and due to an incorrect clipping, the bird was never able to fly again. I don't want this to happen to Chile. I live near Palm Springs, CA. Can you recommend someone reliable to go to to have the wings clipped just once?
Thanks, Bett Reece Johnson
