Sam is also very sweet. She's never bitten me severely... mostly little warning bites... no applied pressure. She give very obvious visual cues when she is upset, and will often make a big show of lunging with not bite. She does this with Cami, too... not just with us. Cami has been very clever on picking up on it and avoiding Sam's "leave me alone" moods, which is why I allow them to interact.
My husband hasn't been so lucky. He's not quite as bird savvy, and has, indeed, incurred a few Sam bites that have broken the skin. Mostly, though, she's a sweetheart... even to him. I can do just about anything with that bird and not get bit. ![]()

I've had Stella since she was about 6 months old. She is nearly 3 years old now. She has NEVER bitten me. Not once. And that is not because I do not handle her -- I handle Stella every single day. We have great cuddle sessions in the evening and, for reasons known only to her, she was in the mood for a cuddle session late this morning. Of course, I indulged her.
I know that this might change when she goes through puberty. At least, that's what I keep reading. Stella, though, is the typical amazon in that she is exceedingly loyal to me. I think it might be more likely that she will attack those around me during the breeding season. I can only wait and see. Also, I have always assumed that Stella is female but I have never had a DNA test done on her. I could be entirely wrong.

Happy to say Doo is still just as sweet as can be, just one big love sponge. I have noticed the jealousy thing though. He can get upset if anyone or any other bird gets close to us when I am spending time with him. Sounds like an amazon thing! Still the most gentle bird I've ever been around.

Congratulations on your OWA, Leah! I have a nine month old that I raised from about 2 months old and Cyd is a wonderful bird! I have never been bitten by Cyd. They are just a wonderful bird! How old is Doo and how did you get so lucky to get him/her?
