Moving

I wanted to pick everyone's brain about moving- We are switching to a house from an apartment this week, and Verde seems to be getting pretty stressed out (completely understandably).
We've been trying to keep him on his regular schedule as much as possible, play time is still at 5:30-6, we've been trying to eat at the same times as usual, etc. But when we start carrying boxes around, he starts talking really fast, and doing laps in his cage.

Also- we are planning on finishing up with everything and actually moving him and the cats to the new house this evening- any suggestions on how to handle that?

any insight you could give me would be really appreciated!

Relax. He's just caught up in the drama of moving, too. Once you all settle down in your new digs with his favorite food in his bowl, he'll simply adjust. I suggest that pizza is always a fun treat and we have pizza night on Friday's here. Just give him time to get his new bearings.

Good, that's what I was hoping to hear!
Pizza is a good idea- we found that he loves pepperoni

Yes I would surely not be too worried I moved all of my birds to our new home with out any problems. I think a couple of them were a bit streesed and quiet for a couple of days but soon went right back to their normal behavior.

You should treat your animals in respect as to you would a child, and keep them up to date on things, and if they are going somewhere new to stay, it's better to take them no a visit there several times first. It's also a good idea to get them used to a car ride so they know whats up ahead. Birds, and other animals, can get very upset when they don't know what's going on and get shoved completely into a new situation without knowing what will be happening and what is going on with yourself.

Well he's definitely used to car rides, we try to take him on short excursions as often as possible, and he's been on 2 road trips with us.
And I'm sure he knows something is up since we've been boxing all our stuff up for the past 4 days.
I've definitely been reassured by everything you all have had to say, though.
thanks!

Best of wishes on your move, and congrats! It is a major move from an apartment to a house!
Your baby will be fine, as everyone else has assured you! I have a cockatoo here who is very sensitive when it comes to hurricanes; he lost a bunch of weight and I took him to the vet thinking something was wrong. He actually felt the storm coming and was quite stressed out. He is now gaining weight back, slowly but surely.
Everything will be fine! And again, congrats!

Monica there is no real need to take the birds to the new home several times. I have moved so many times I cannot count them. My husband was millitary so we often had to move every couple of years. I was refering to our last move here to our home we are in now. Hubby has been retired now for awhile. Birds are quite adaptable they are not as fragile as some people think. when a bird knows it's loved they can go thru a quite a bit so long as their owner is there. I would not consider that to be ((shoving them into a new situation at all....people move...birds move)). The birds will be fine in a day or two they will be right back to their old selves.

My experience moving from FL to NY was a god one. We drove straight thru for 24 hours. All the birdies did great! So did all the other animals.

When we moves it seemed to be more stressful on me then on my animals. The first couple of nights the dogs walked the floor and the birds moved around in their cages quite a bit.
But things got back to normal after a few days.
