Loud zons

People get pitch mixed up with volume, Yes a MRH has a call that seems louder due to the pitch of the call but DYH, YN, mealy, etc usually have a louder call at a lower pitch (Most of the time anyway)

Sort of like a macaw and an M2, a macaw is just as loud if not louder when they sound off but it doesnt seem like it because of the pitch of the sound(had a macaw break an ear drum with a scream and none of my toos have even come close to causing damage other than to my nerves from time to time)

Okay, now I understand. Seems that I was confusing pitch with volume. When my MRHs screech it truly tries to rearrange the molecules in my spinal column. When my DYHs yell most of the time I don't even notice it and, if I do and am trying to concentrate, it's merely irritating, not painful.

Hahah, OK I have a DYH and I love his noises.... but on the other hand, I have fostered senegals, lovebirds, and other generally "shrill" birds that I cannot stand ONE BIT! Absoltutely KILLED my eardrums. The VOLUME wasnt loud mind you, it was the pitch that killed me. Good discussion, lol.

LOL. You remember how Lol-a sounds, don't you? By the way, he got me again this evening as I peeled him off the side of Rico & Rosita's cage. Rico was right down there trying to bite him from the other side, so I couldn't just leave him there. Looks like a bit of bruising but no blood.

"Peeled"!!!!! LOL , You have such a descriptive way with words Joanie ....No, actually Lol-a wasn't noisey with me, maybe I heard him once make any noise but that day I was too busy to pay much attention if I remember correctly.....Poor baby, I bet ya are thinking of devious ways to pay me back someday! ....I enjoy envisioning all the antics going on at your place everyday with the whole "gang".

I know this depends on each bird, Is this amazon louder then most?

I have allot of bird expirience and i know what to expect for the most part
just not sure how they make pets and if they are overly loud.

any and all info along with pics would be wonderful thank you all
Some people get a little confused when it comes to birds screaming. It isn't always the volume but also the pitch. Some birds have a very shrill voice that a lot of people cannot tolerate. Many of the less aggressive species of Amazons seem to have a shriller voice. Blue Fronts, Napes, and Double Yellows (The Hot Three), are louder than some of the other species but the pitch of their voices is lower and deep. It is annoying like a barking dog. Some of the other birds have a voice that gets you right to the core.

Zon noise

I dont mind the dyh's and the bfa's but the mra drives me into the wall every time i hear it.

Its sort of like having a pair of nandays nesting in your head.
