Green Cheeked amazon I need info please:)

Hello everyone, I have the chance to Bring a 5 month old Green cheek zon
home aka mexican redheaded zon.

I have looked up and down for information i can not find very much info.
My only thing is somone told me they are overly loud with a very harsh call.
I know this depends on each bird, Is this amazon louder then most?

I have allot of bird expirience and i know what to expect for the most part
just not sure how they make pets and if they are overly loud.

any and all info along with pics would be wonderful thank you all

I'm not sure about the loud factor, but I wouldn't think that any amazon would be worse than a too or a macaw. I have one YNA and she's pretty quiet, although she can crank it up if she's so inclined. She has an amazing vocabulary and tends to talk as opposed to scream.

Why not ask your question in the Ask The Experts section under Amazons. Joannie Doss is our resident expert and she'd really in tune with them.

My GC can be VERY loud , but the worst is at breakfast time...soon as she's fed she settles down...and then for a bit in the evening, esp. if I'm home and not paying attention to her...

...but she's very easy going...loves to hang out with me...not more demanding than I'm happy to indulge...

Both of my Red-Heads have a loud, shrill voice -- not all the time, but when they get that way they can be truly obnoxious. On the other hand, my female is truly a sweet little girl. I can't advise whether to get this fid or not but can confirm the volume. Of my seven 'zons, the Red-Heads are the most vocally obnoxious.

Send a message via Yahoo to Beaks
LOL Amazon

Mexican red heads are no different than any other zon and are not as loud as a DYH.

I have one that is cuddly and likes to sing opera, he is also bonded to a GS2 (they get along great when they are allowed to be together)

John

What you write is interesting, John. I can only speak from the experiences I've had with my own flock (3 DYH, 2 MRH, 1 BFA and 1 OWA/YC) and my sister's DYH, so won't try to generalize. You've no doubt had many more of them through your rescue. My DYHs are very quiet for the most part, except for one call the female makes that can be heard far, far away. It doesn't seem to be a dawn/dusk call but is an attempt to get attention when she wants it. Both of my MRHs are very shrill and loud, with a pitch to their screams that is almost painful. Is this not typical?

...just because they're loud doesn't mean they're not wonderful otherwise...

ALL birds can be loud...and should be...that's what birds are...if you can't deal with noise, and not everyone can...you likely shouldn't get a bird...our 'tiels have been the worst actually, they're not quite as loud...but they'll go on forever! Ususally in the final few minutes of favourite TV show so we miss the finale...

Sounds like this bird needs to get out of it's current home and into a good one...

That is exactly why i did not bring the bird into my home.
Yes i understand that birds are vocal but that pitch is too loud for me
Id rather have her rehome the bird then me have to do the same.

Guess the hunt for an eclectus is still on lol
