The blue fronts are in my opinion the most beautiful of the amazon parrots. They are so colorful from the top and underneath. When they spread their wings and tails, there are few birds that can rival them.
That having been said, I can't say the same for the males. They are unpredictable and can be very, very aggressive. I think I'm pretty good with most parrots, but I really have to read those males very carefully before I go to war with them. They can really bite hard; to the bone hard.
I am wondering how one would go about getting a female BFA. Are stores willing to sex test before selling? and your opinion, I am looking to get my first big bird. I like Jenday for the playfulness and color, but afraid of the screaming people speak of, and looking for possibly more speech skills.I originally was looking at BFA cuz of the beautiful rainbow colors and the fact that they have a better chance of talking. BUT it is a bigger bird yes? I've been reading many conflicting books and opinions I'm just confused.-Beck
I have to agree with you HockeyChk12 on bfas' beauty because I'm aquainted with one such beauty And indeed they can be very temperamental and unpredictably so... As they mature and sexual hormones starts kicking in, aggression tend to increase as well. So it will test how good earlier training has been but not all of them are like that particularly if you are lucky enough to get a mild one but its quite a gamble to hinge on that luck and yes, zons are medium sized birds...blue fronted ebin around 15 inches...some are bigger, some smaller An important reminder to those interested and wanting to get a zon, most babies are sweet and mild and seems suitable to just about anyone Yet, there are alot of these people who are not prepared for their increased aggression and unpredictability as zons matures That is when zons companionship degenerates between hormonal aggression on the zon's part and fear/wariness from the owner's part Eventually the relationship got so bad that the owner give up the bird And thats why many zons reaching sexual maturity are up for sale as second hand birds My suggestions...get a zon less well known for their aggression and likely to be more mild I have heard rave comments on the lilac crowned as such but have no personal experience so you might want to check that out I do not want to sound discouraging or even to the extend of being disparaging for people with interest and passions for these birds, particularly the double yellow, yello nape and blue fronted who are well knwon for their talking an beauty but also aggression So my only suggestion would be...if one is really passionate about them, then change yourself Be prepared for what the zon will throw in your face, accepting both their high and low points To love an amazon is to understand him/her
