Introducing Ringo

Hey y'all,
Ringo (Lilac-Crowned) just moved in today. He's a sweetheart. I've been allowing him to familiarize himself with the surroundings. I've also been checking out his personality and trying to figure out my boundaries in the beginning.

By the way, Ringo is a rescued bird I am foster parenting from the local NW bird rescue (www.rescuebird.com).

So far, Ringo steps up, talks, doesn't like to be petted, seems to like my shoulder, has eaten some food from my hand and mouth (!).

I hope to work with him so he is more comfortable with being touched. All in due time. When he gets frightened, he flaps his wings erratically. He's jumped off my knee twice and dropped to the ground like a stone. His wings are clipped, unlike Yogurt, who likes to fly from my shoulder, circle the room, and land on my housemate Jason's head.

Ringo seems comfortable with Jason's big rottweiler dog, Cain. And Cain seems comfortable with the birds. He has a nice big cage, and I hope to make him some cool perches and toys soon.

Oh, I had some music on and Ringo was shaking his head every time a certain part repeated. It was weird. Maybe he was reacting to a certain frequency in the song. I hope it didn't irritate him.

He hasn't bit me, but he knows how to tell me when he is upset. He growls.

And he likes smoked salmon.

Dave

Ohhh, pretty Ringo. If I lived closer I'd consider adopting him when he becomes available. Do you know how he came to be in the rescue?

I have asked, but still don't know where he came from, or what the reasons for him being given up.

He seems like such an ideal bird, I can only think that the care and maintenance of a parrot didn't fit into the owners lifestyle anymore.

I have a red lored too! She is the only parrot I have. I have had her for 2 1/2 years now. She is a joy to have around. She can get rather loud with the Nextel "beep". Sometimes I can't tell the difference and I think work is calling me. It took me 3 months to even get close to her. She was kind of a rescue bird too. I bought her from one of those bird shops that had nothing but rejects in there. I'm glad they are out of business finally.
Good luck on your red.

Ringo is beautiful. Is he a Lilac crowned or Red Lored?

Looks like a red-lored to me. Question Wags, Salvin's are said to have no yellow feathers whatsoever, in the photo it looks like Ringo has some yellow peeking out from his wing??
