sonny the panama
my birds also has a musky smell almost like a sweaty dirty person. THis smell is telling you that he needs a bath. The smell is emitted from their skin. its probably waste or oil . It will go away and will be less noticeable when he gets a bath. You need to give them a bath when the smell becomes noticeable. Usually it will start to become noticeable without 2 weeks of bathing. They need a total drenching from head to tail to remove the smell not just a little mist spray.

My orange-wing doesn't really smell, per se, but he does have a musky smell that can get more intense when my wife (or any girls) are around. You can't just smell it, you have to get close (..smooch on the belly!)
But I will point out in my experience, diet will have a big impact on a bird's smell (specially their droppings). We had a scarlet come to us and his main diet consisted of those colored crunchies (...they remind me of "Fruit Loops" cereal...), and his poop had a very strong, nasty smell! We've got him on a mainly fruit diet now and it's much better. Anyway, try diet and also give baths/showers. Charlie (my OWA) loves showers and it helps keep him clean and smell-free.

i know the amazon musky smell well, I love it, there is nothing like burying my face in my OWA's feathers. she bathes quite often though, so it's kept under control. I've never quite found it to be a stench, however. i suppose it may vary from situation to situation.

All our zons and quaker have their own musk. Sometimes our quaker will have a strong garlic type. Sometimes my Lilac Crown will be floural, sometimes not. Our Yellow Crown gets real strong if he's riled up... His can be like swiss cheese and other times like buttery popcorn. I actually like their unique smells.. If you wanna smell a strong bird, smell a white capped pionus.......I've only met about six, and all have stronger musk than any amazon...
