How funny! Hubby had our new Amazon out today and she was sitting on my chair. All I could do was complain about what smelled, even asked hubby if he farted. Thanks to this thread, I think I know where the smell was coming from :) I think my bird needs a washing :D

I just had to pop in here to say...I love amazon stink! My Orange wing smells like a foot and I simply adore it. The reason why amazons smell this way, particularly around the mouth area - I have learned, is NOT due to the oil in their preen gland. Amazons have a special gand behind the ear that puts off the smell - sort of like a pheramone. If you notice, the smell gets much stronger when your bird is getting some lovins from you! The glad becomes more active when your bird feels happy, producing more stink! Weird, huh?

hi ,if u like ur bird the way that it smell will not annoy u. i have an amazon and an jaco what can i say u r right the amazon smells more than a jaco. anyway i think it is a digestive reason because that smell comes when he breath.
