lol, im not sure what an oratix is, i just know what i have read about the subspecies. but im pretty sure yours is not a magna lol. magna babies will get all those yellow feathers right when they first start growing pins. we were fortunate enough to have a clutch of, get this, 6 magna babies, and i was there to watch them grow in feathers, i came THISCLOSE, to buying one, lol, i was sooo tempted. i also met the breeder who brought them in, she was very nice, although i dont remember her name, and she brought pics of the parents, omg!! one of them had TONS of yellow all over its wings, he was so unusual and gorgeous!! the other one didnt have yellow on its wings, but it had a ton of yellow on its head and neck and on its chest.

These are my notes from a lecture some time ago.............
There are 3 subspecies of the double yellow headed Amazon. One is the most common the A ochrocephala oratrix, this species is what you find most times when offered double yellow heads, with little or no yellow and red in bend of the wings and when young just the forehead and crown is yellow, with the entire head being covered in few years. This Double Yellow Head is from Mexico mostly central to northern areas. The Magna subspecies, being the most colorful with the head being almost covered even when very young. As they age, the Yellow will grow down their chest, along with the Yellow on the legs expanding to the belly. The magna is from the eastern area of Mexico ranging even into the slopes on the eastern coast of Mexico. The last is the more rare Tres Marie subspecies of the double yellow head. The Tres Marie is known for the lack of barring on the breast, with varying degrees of a blue cast to breast feathers. They originate from the Tres Marie Island in the pacific off the coast of Mexico. Though all three subspecies are from the same general area, Harvard biologist Mike Schindlinger studied and noted that all three subspecies “speak” their own language. He was a very interesting speaker with his movies and tapes that he shared once he came home.

yea, that noise thing is pretty cool. ive noticed the same thing with my alexandrines. my hybrid pair sounds completely different from my pure birds. but, even my pure pair sounds different from my pet alexandrine, alot different. there are at least 6 subspecies of pure alexandrines though, lol....it can get very confusing :)

LMAO some magnas dont have alot of yellow and most that are seen on the net are extreme cases thet were bred for max amount of yellow coverage.
Magnas and TM's are alot bigger than plain jane DYH's, not just a little. My magna has some yellow on the breast and the whole head is yellow but he is a couple hundred grams larger than my DYH's too my TM is also larger without the barring but with just as much yellow as the magna. LOL yes their calls are different too my magna and TM will irritate you to death with their calls.(just weird sounding zons) they all smell the same PS: thats not a TM

you know, just another thing to think about, there are most likely breeders out there that have bred a tres marie to a mangna DYH, or a normal DYH, so who knows, maybe there are a bunch of "hybrids" out there. i doubt they would be true hybrids since they would just be mixes of the subspecies.
