Congratulations.
The orange wings, especially the female orange wings, are considered very choice amazon parrots. I have a female yellow nape and she's a doll. I really love the amazons. They are extremely loyal and very loving to their special people. Hopefully, this will be a love match for everyone involved.

Congratulations on your new friend. She's very blessed to be coming into your home. Female 'zons tend to be extremely sweet.

Well.... we brought our little Zon home last night. We got the rest of the story, the people had her in a cockatiel cage because they had tried putting her with a male and setting them up for breeding and it didn't work out. They liked the male and kept him as a pet, but the female got put in this little cage with no perches.
The guy we got her from was fostering her until someone could find her a good home. That would be us! She is missing a couple of toes (probably got bitten off by the male) and she is really nervous and scared but only did minor damage to Hubby's hands last night Would toweling her in order to get her out of the cage set us back any? She doesn't seem afraid of towels, she more afraid of hands. Right now we are going to give her a few days to settle in to her new cage and get used to us. Even though Hubby's hands were bleeding last night.. I think he has found a new love.I'll get pics on here as soon as she calms down some. |

I'm no Zon expert so I'll leave the real advice to Joanie and Nancy. Personally, though, I wouldn't towel at this point, especially if she's not used to it (probably not). Give her some time to settle in. By all means, interact with her and try to handle her, but I wouldn't towel. Nope.

I didn't think it would be a very good idea. We had some progress though! She hasn't eaten since we brought her home last night, so I fixed her some sweet potato and put it in her dish. She wouldn't go near it, so I opened her food dish door and started picking through her food and making "yum yum" noises. She couldn't stand it,she had to hustle over and find out what was so good! LOL! I sat by the cage and made yummy noises while she ate a lot of food, a few pellets, a bite of sweet potato, and a bunch of sunflower seeds (gotta work on that) but she did eat, and didn't mind me being there.
I think she will be just fine after she settles in. |
