Question Question about mateing....

I have a blue fronted and I think she is in heat. I also have a blue faced male. How can I mate her and can I mate her with my male?

Amy

If you have two different species of amazons, please DO NOT hybridize them! Just because you have a female being hormonal (birds don't go into heat like dogs or cats... they become hormonal) doesn't mean that you should breed her. It's also ill adviced to hybridize her. Parrots do not form bonds like cats or dogs... they form "life time" bonds, meaning that it takes time for two birds to become friends, and decide to be mates... and even then they might not breed. You can't put two birds together and expect them to mate, and two birds may not even be compatible which could result in injury, if not worse, to one of the birds.

Ok Thanks. I keep them together all the time. Their cages is next to each other but I leave the cage doors open all the time. They share everything. When the sleep they sleep in the same cage. When she sits next to him its funny cuase she is twice his size. He was a famous bird here in Shreveport, La. He was all over the news and newspaper.

Please do your research before you EVER consider breeding birds. I don't know what a blue face amazon is. I've never heard of one. The Bluefront amazon is a wonderful parrot.

However, its unethical to set up pairs and then just expect them to happily breed and raise babies. You have to understand the dangers and the complications involved. You must also know that you'll have to know how to feed baby birds and you'll lose the companionship of both of the parents. They will raise their babies as wild birds and they won't have human imprinting. You'll need expensive equipment like brooders, special formula, syringes, nest boxes, et.

This doesn't work like breeding cats and dogs. Birds mate for life and produce for many decades. Please rethink this. JMHO
