what does it mean...

what does it mean when an amazon flares his tail but is vocal when someone approaches its cage? Is it a warning to leave his territory alone or is he (dont kno if it is male or female) trying to be friendly?

I think I saw this post before.

Our blue front spreads her tails feathers and says HELLO, whistles pretty, and then says, lololololololololololololo. But only is she loves you. It is an affection thing with us. Yours could be too. Look in her eyes and talk.

:D During the lil hiccup the responses could have gotten lost. Keev said some things were. Your bird is probably just happy to see you. Since it's your first just be careful and play it by ear. 8)

That makes a difference.
Are you bird sitting or is this a bird you are thinking of buying/adopting?

Also, (I know it's hard to do but) could you try to describe the sound it's making?

Frankly, it just means they are very excited. That can be good or bad, depending on the cirmcumstances. The bird is trying to show you all of its many fine features, including its sharp beak should it need to use it on you. My zon fully displays everytime I'm near her. Its a GOOD and HAPPY display and she's just glad to see me, as am I her. She is trying to get my attention.

Amazons have something called "crushes". That occurs when for some unknown reason they simply decide you are the most special person on earth. They tend to have some kind of special birdie radar to pick up certain traits that we simply aren't privvy to. I was very fortunate, for my Taco had a "love at first sight" reaction to me. Nothing has changed in the two years I've had her. She is very loyal and loving. That having been said, they can also have a "enemy at 3:00" reaction and get very agitated as well. Again, its beyond our human comprehension quite often, but rarely changes with age. They are complex creatures.
