Hi:

I've been reading posts in here for quite some time but never posted myself. I have two different species of amazons -- one male, one female. The male, a YN is loud, hilarious and sings 4 different songs in their entirety! He also has a pretty good vocabulary. His voice booms through the house. When the female (BFA) is in the room with him, she doen't say much, but when she's separated from him she is quite chatty though not as loud. It's as though she "gives him the floor" when their together. Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?

Of the two amazona that we own, our double yellow headed is by far the most talkitive, if he feels like it of course. He gets happy and will actually start singing opera songs sometimes. He has a great vocabulary. He gets especially excited if we have a woman in the house. He starts showing off for her, it is actually quite cute.

I have one red lored of mixed heritage (laugh).
We have only had her about 6 weeks now. Since I was told she was about 10 yrs old and her legband says USDAM 347. I know that is not true and lord knows what else is untrue about her background.
Her name is Laura and she said "hello Laura" when we got her.
Only after 6 weeks she has begun chattering more..She now says "good girl Laura" and a bunch of other stuff none of us understand LOL.
Her speech is not as clear as my Citron cockatoo but it is understandable :)

My boyfriend has a Yellow Crowned Amazon called Charlie and he is very chatty and likes to sing too!

We can never work out what the sing is he sings, he obviously learnt it with his previous owner (you can read Charlie's history under the video link I'm going to post).

Charlie often comes to stay with me when Mark is working away (some of the video clips show a smaller cage, this is not his permanent cage, just one he sometimes uses when he stays with me and I don't shut him in it ).

You can hear Charlie HERE. Check out his wicked laugh! It's very funny!

THIS is another funny one, he says 'Goodnight Gilbert', Gilbert was his previous owner who passed away.

We housed a blue fronted amazon, Kelly for about 7 months while her owner had everything arraged for her daughter to get her when she could. It made us sad to see her go, she was such a sweetie. We were told she was 35+ years old, and we witnessed her say in excess of 200 words very clearly. She knew the meaning of mostly everything she said. I've yet to see a better talking bird in person. Some of the things she would say to strangers that made us crack up was
"Kelly's a good girl"
"Kelly don't bite", (followed by an evil laugh lol, but she didn't bite).
She would tell us exactly what she wanted to eat and when she had to go potty. I was amazed with her, and still visit her on a regular basis.

He doesn't speak in long sentences, usually only a few words, but he understands the language and speaks in context.

Here is my Taco. She is about 26 years old.

YouTube - Taco the amazon

As I had said in my first post in the Amazon forum, I just got a new Amazon who is technically a re home. She had a huge vocabulary.

Let's see..

"I'm such a pretty Bird"
"Murder"
"What?"
"SOB"..Yes she's actually says the words which I won't spell out here
"it's no fair"
"oh my God"
Says her name, screams it too
Sings Opera scales
Makes the sound of a rooster

I also heard something in Spanish but I have NO idea what it is...lol

She's only been here for 2 days so I'm sure I'll be hearing more.

What I found funny is that she cat calls. One of the things my hubby has been doing, is to teach our quaker to wolf whistle and go Hot Momma. Right now he say's Hot after the whistle. Well the day we got the Amazon, he cat called and the Quaker quickly responded with "hot"...It was so cute!
