How well does your Amazon talk?

In a house with 9 parrots, only one being an Amazon, I only have my Taco, the yellow nape, to compare speaking ability. She is really my singer, loving to sing to just about anything. However, her vocabulary is surely impressive. She definitely out talks my grey and the only other bird here that even approaches her extensive vocabulary is my oldest male BG, Dreamer. He doesn't speak in long sentences, usually only a few words, but he understands the language and speaks in context.

Here is my Taco. She is about 26 years old.

Actually, the yellow nape and Double yellow are supposed to be the best talkers and singers of the Amazon world. Harley who is 17, his vocabulary consists of about 10 words. He does not sing either.

My white Bellied Caique has the largest vocabulary in the house,...and they are not known to be talkers.

Caesar, my mealy amazon, is definitely the best talker in my house, but he is also the oldest at 3 1/2 years old. Right now he has maybe 10 words or phrases but he is always learning and always mumbling. He also laughs ALOT. He's a happy boy.

Several of my 'zons are very good talkers. When David came to Bluebird Hill today, he was amazed at all the goings-on.

None of my guys has an extensive vocabulary (as far as I can tell), but several of them speak clearly and (sometimes) in context. Rico is very clear as he speaks, but his voice is so soft that you have to listen closely. Rosita -- God bless her, she just goes on and on and on. Sometimes I can tell exactly what she's saying, but not always. Liza Loo speaks very clearly and, many times, in context. Abigail does a perfect imitation of Adora's voice, but that's about all she says.

Sarge as you all know was very abused and covered all the time, so he didn't learn many words. As of now, we've heard him laugh and say "hello" and "how are you" but nothing more.

My yellow nape, Stella, is a skilled talker and singer. She is by far the best talker in my flock, and that's saying something given that I have 2 CAGs! Stella is also very creative and makes up songs on her own from words she has learned. She will often speak in context. As an example, when she is out of her cage and playing on a playgym, when she gets thirsty, she will loudly announce to me "Want water"!! She will also say, "want apple", which is her favorite fruit. She says all kinds of things -- too numerous to list. And she seems to pick up new words all the time. Stella will be turning 4 in April.

I have 3 amazons and not nary a one will speak a word. They are all older parrots 16-22+years. I was told that "D" could say "hello", but we've never heard it. She does speak fluent "Amazon" and can do so quite loudly when she wants to.
Joanie's Rosita is a hooooot! She didn't shut up the whole time she visited here, except when it was bed time. I love to hear her call "Riiiiiiiicoooooooo"!

Kimmy, have you ever heard Rosita when she starts calling the dog? She calls, just like you'd call for a dog, "Buuussssssssster! Buuussssssssster!" then she'll whistle just like you whistle for a dog. It's hysterical.

My Angel(CAG) calls the dog too. It's the most aggravating thing in the world when you are trying to call the dog to go outside, and she's inside calling him back in! Poor dog don't know what to do.

We have 3 Amazons. Koa our Yellow Nape is 9 months old and yells everything she says. She can say Hello, Whatcha Doin?,I love you, and loves to repeat her name over and over at the top of her lungs! KOA KOA KOA! She has is also learning to sing the "Barney song" LOL! If I could just get her to speak in a quieter voice it would be great. My CAG tries, when she gets at her worst he tells her to "Whisper" LOL! We also have Miss Piggy and Kermit (they were already named when we got them) they are 10 yrs old and Kermit hasn't said a thing since he got here. Miss Piggy on the other hand is quite a talker, sometimes she never shuts up. Maybe that is why poor Kermit doesn't say anything, he hasn't been able to get a word in edgewise in 10 yrs! Piggy knows my Husbands name and calls him when she wants his attention. He taught her to say Pretty Bird and Good Girl and she has gone form there to make up Pretty Girl, Pretty Piggy, and one night (my Husbands name is Clay) she looks him straight in the eye and said "Pretty,Pretty Clay!" It's the only time he's been called pretty.
