Playstand for BFA

Howdy,

I'm moving from a one level condo to a two level condo. To avoid having to carry my female BFA's perch up and down the stairs, I thought I'd by another one and just keep it up there. I was wondering about one of those great playstands that looks like a big tree.

My question is this for other BFA owners: right now when she climbs to the top of her cage, or climbs anywhere for that matter, she basically wants to get as high as she can, then looks at me expectantly, or yells "What are you doing?" at me (her cue that she is feeling neglected).

I see other birds swinging and climbing and having a great time on these things. Just wondering if it's just not in a bfa's nature to do so.

Thanks.

My male BFA is not nearly adventurous as my macaw...He does the same thing your girl does and just watches the world below... Nor is he adventurous when it comes to different foods...

But, it never hurts to try!

I guess that's the nice thing about the bfa...they are a little more mellow than some of the other birds out there. I worry about her not getting enough exercise, so I try to get her flapping on my hand running through the living room. We have a double-decker cage, so I take her upstairs neighbor out (Cujo the cockatiel) and let her climb away. But again, she tends to climb up to the top and just sort of strut. I tempt her down with a nutri-berry, then she goes back up again.

I'm sure I'm more worried about getting exercise than she is!

Playstand

I bought one of those "playstand trees" and now have 4 of them.... the BFA Loves tocome out and socialize in the evening. We also feed him people food or warmed/moist Zupreem pellets in a twistcrock. I attached it with a longer bolt and makes it quick and easy to change from food to water and back again. cost me $300 at a bird fair/show and he LOVES IT! attached toys and rope swings for excercise.

My BFA used to climb down and go exploring around the room. It took him awhile to get comfortable enough to do this. If you can hold him on you're hand, take him to different parts of the room for a short visit to let him realize nothing to be afraid of. After time, he will be more comfortable to be at ease and move around on the play-tree. mabe put the food/water bowls half-way up so he has to come down for his favorite treat. [again, food is a great motivater] My BFA passed away last March, and last July I adopted a LCA to teach things to. She's just now showing more of an exploratory nature. Wally

You're right, Wally. Food is definitely a good motivator for these guys. Great idea having the food lower on the stand. If that doesn't get her climbing around nothing will.
