Panama Amazon?

Eventually, I hope to add a second bird (already have a TAG) to my family. I'm doing a lot or research trying to decide what kind of bird would fit in best. I've always been intrigued by Amazons but a bit terrified by what I've read about them....hormonal, unpredictable, even dangerous....it's always scared me away from them. Recently, I ran across some things about Panama Amazons and it sound like they are a lot more even tempered and maybe something I could handle. But I can't seem to find much information specifically about them. Does anyone here have one? I would really like to find out more. Would love to find out about there personality, temperament, intelligience, and how loud are they compared to a TAG. Noise isn't a huge problem since I live in a house but would like to have an idea about how loud. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Michele

yellow-crown amazon named sonny

I just adopted a yellow-crown amazon and have read and researched amazons on the internet from what I"ve read they are often mistaken for the panama amazon becuase they look almost the same; and are very closely related, from the same part of the world central and south america with the same even-tempered qualities, and quiet disposition and same talking ability.
The yellow crown and panama are said to be the most docile of the amazons.
I'v read that panama amazons as companion pets are very rare and difficult to find/buy, one of the best talkers similar to african grey and if your able to get one your very lucky; they also command top dollar I believe 1200 is the lowest price I've seen them for up to 2000 dollars.
I've had sonny for 2 days and and he's terrified of his new environment but he is already whistling, and saying hello; he's 8 years old hand raised and will step up; he responds to the command and will step up.
Although he isn't sure about staying on my hand for more than 20 seconds he just gets back to his cage asap. I know that he's wondering where his previous owner is I think it'll take some time for him to get bonded but he sure is a great bird. I don't think he's quite as cuddly or loving as my goffin cockatoo but still a nice bird.here are some pics.

more pics of sonny

more pics of sonny. I was also able to put him on my shoulder on the second day but I can still tell that he is undoubtedly unsure of me and his environment. He shakes when I put my finger up to him, hold him too long, and ask him to step up.
But I think he will be a great addition to the bird family as soon as he gets more comfortable with his new home.
I already have a goffin who is extremely aggressive and jealous towards my other birds a cocatiel and yellow crown amazon.

Hi, I'm new to the boards. I have a YCA, looks just like yours in the pictures. I think you have a "regular" YC rather than a Panama. Mine is 12 yrs old, I've had him since he was weaned. He's wonderful, very cuddly but very vicious when he feels hormonal or feels neglected! He's also very sensitive, so I wonder if yours is too with the trembling. Good luck and enjoy him, they're wonderful birds!

yellow crown amazon

I've had sonny for 4 days now and the trembling is going away. I think he's just scared of people. He doesn't show any agressive behaviors yet but when I have him on my finger if I try to pet his head with my other hand he will open his beak as if he's ready to protect himself or bite. but he hasn't bitten. He'll jump off my finger if I try to pet him when he's on my finger.
Otherwise he is a very tame bird. He steps up right away all I have to do is show him my finger and he steps up, and he loves to sit on my shoulder but doesn't like to be petted. I can already tell that he is definitely not a cuddler.
my cuddle monster/goffin cockatoo loves physical contact and would love to be petted all day long if she could.

can someone tell me if sonny is a panama amazon or yellow crown amazon

I tried to distinguish him from the two and they said the panama has grey feet as compared to white feet for the yellow crown also the panama has a triangular shaped yellow crown if you look at the head from the top which sonny has so I"m not sure if hes a yellow crown or panama amazon.
Here are some more pics of him.
