The DYH will probably be a handful. Do you have any experience with these birds? They can be downright dangerous sometimes especialy when they get hormonal. The DYH and BF are also known as 2 of the Hot 3, (Yellow nape being the 3rd) but since the BF is 2 years old probably would not be as set in it's ways and be more manageable for you. Who knows though the DYH might take to you and be a real sweetie. They can live 50-75 years. Some are known to live longer than that!

I adopted a 3 year-old blue-front almost 2 years ago and she is wonderful. I'm her third owner (and last!) so I sometimes wonder if she is not just used to different people making the transfer rather easy. She's really sweet and other than some of the normal behavior problems (the screaming in the morning!) she is no trouble. She's also very independent and will play on her own for hours on her cage. I don't have a response for the 12 y-o you are considering but the younger seems fine to me based on my experience.

I would visit the birds, andsee how they are with you. These are a lifelong commitment, and you want a good match for such a companion. It would all depend on the individual, and the bird. My wife bought a YCA that was 1-1/2 years old, and before we took him home, he was cuddling under her chin. I re-homed a BFA that was 8 or 9 and he took to me the moment we met. Breeders can be tricky, as you don't know how much interaction with people was done. You don't know if it had a significant other, and will be broken hearted at first. If you have not had experience with amazons, definately visit with the birds before taking one home.
