question about yellow nape

I have a 20 yr. old yellow nape who has lived with me since he was 4 months old. He doesn't have a yellow nape however - the most yellow he has ever had was a small yellow feather. Is this common or is it possible he is really not a yellow nape? He's always been very healthy and eats just about everything. Thanks for the input!
