Difference in Choco Blue front or Yellow Nape?
Hi All,
As some of you probably know I am in the market for an Amazon. I had a YN years ago and had to sell him when I went to college. I sold him to a wonderful lady who still uses him as a therapy bird. He goes to local schools and nursing homes and most recently she started working with autistic kids with him. He was an incredible bird and I worked with him alot so he had quite a vocabulary and has only improved it over the years. I have always regretted selling him, but I felt it was in his best interest. The more time I needed to spend away from him the more unhappy he was. O.k. now we fast forward to present time and I am settled and happy and am longing to get another amazon. I would like some opinions of the differences between the blue fronts and the yellow napes so I can make the best decision. Do they both have equal talking ability? personalities? Any help and opinions would be greatly appreciated. |

Through my experiences in life, I find that males seem to be more vocal than the females in these two Amazon species. I also feel the YNA to be more of a talker than the BFA. These are just my experiences though. I have found that the best bird is the one that bonds with you. The one that really takes a liking to you. It's going to be a lifetime together, may as well seek out one that feels secure and safe with you.

If you want a yellow nape that is what I would get or you will end up getting one later. If that is what your heart is set one you will always be a little unhappy no matter how great your Blue is. I have a Chaco Blue fronted and she talks just as well as our friends yellow. Some of her words are clearer. But I think this is probably because she is mine. So we are all a little bias towards our own birds. It also has to do with how much time you spend with it talking to it. I do agree to that if you are bonded the bird will talk more to you. My bird loves my husband and pretty much wishes me to be gone. She loves him and talks to him all the time she learned dad right away. She learned it gets his attention. Good luck with your bird choice.

Thanks! I have found a yellow nape and I am just waiting for him/her to be weaned. They DNA'ed the entire clutch and we will find out the results early next week. They are all three very sweet and cuddly and I just can't wait for mine to be ready to come home. I just bought a cage and am now working on toys, treats, etc. I will keep you all posted!
