cHECKING THIS PARROT OUT ON SATURDAY

I have been doing a lot of research and never thought I would opt for amazon, but I just got off the phone with the rescue agency and she has a 10yo hybrid BFA/OWA who is on the small size and is not LOUD. This parrot loves the two conure rescues the woman has. (I have a gc) I will be going out to Lair of the Dragon in Lancaster (found the rescue on THIS SITE) on Saturday. This parrot was vet tested 2 months ago, and only had one owner.

I am excited! I have been researching all types of parrots, but really wanted something bigger than a gc, with a great personality.

What do you all think?

All I can say is that I've known folks who have shared their lives w/ BFAs and OWAs and they can't say enough about them :)

Amazons aren't for everyone but if you've done your research on the species and the folks at LOTD think that the match is a good one, you may have found yourself with a new friend.

Keep in mind that their is no guarantee on the noise level... a new environment could possibly give this 'zon incentive to be more vocal ;)

Congratulations Wendy!! I am very happy for you, and your new Parrot.

I will be adopting one in about 2 weeks, so am in the same boat as you - the research phase. I hope all goes well, and you bond with this new little friend!

Be very careful with having him on your shoulder. If he got startled for anyreason, he could leave you with a nasty bite needing stitches [or worse]. I would work with him on step-ups to a perch, and staying on your hand/wrist. My humble opinion is all birds should be perch trained [if at all possible] for the times they may be in a feisty mood.

Just remember that fosters dont tell you everything

You have to remember that the fosters dont tell you everything so be carefull and watch it all cause zons can bite and leave a nasty thing that might need stitches . I have had one zon in my life and he was beautifull and never ever bit anyone including my dad who had him before i did . Just be carefull and if the bird bites you severly the foster will not pay for it . good luck .
