Question Cage size for YN amazon

In my search for a new bird I have come across an amazon. I never really thought I would go for an amazon because I have read how loud they can be but this bird is really sweet and doesn't scream (I was told and I know that could change once he's here). I also know they can get hormonal and agressive during breeding season and that's ok too. He is a 4 year old yellow naped and the woman who has them has an amazon of her own (this was her daughter's bird) and while he is a little more than I was planning on spending right now, he is a reasonable price and she said she would be willing to let me make payments.
My question is what is the minimum cage size for a yellow naped? He is in a borrowed cage right now that she said is too small for him so I would need to get a cage. He would be out of the cage for almost the whole day but on occasion have to stay in there for a few hours. I know the largest possible is best but since I don't even know what the minimum size is I don't really have a place to start. Everything I have read has been around 24x24x36 but that seems really small to me. Any help is appreciated! And anything else anyone can think of for me to think about or look out for would be great! While I have had experience with larger parrots, this would be my first time owning one...

For an YN I would go with a cage that is at least 48x28x48, but bigger=better.

I agree with Elina--the bigger, the better. Amazons just LOVE to play with toys, and they will spread their wings while doing so, partly out of excitement and partly for balance. Your cage should be large enough for him to move about in with ease as well as play without restrictions.

And, yes, they can be VERY aggressive during hormonal changes so be sure this is the bird you want. That aggressiveness can lead to biting if they feel threatened. The advantage to an Amazon is that you can pretty much tell his mood, and when he's overly excited, you'll know to let him have his space until he cools off.

My yellow-naped Amazon absolutely is a very sweet bird and loves to be held and cuddled as long as it's just the two of us in the room. However, he has appointed my daughter as his "mate" and my grandson as his "child" and if either are in the room, I cannot touch him at all, and in fact, he'll attack me if my grandson is in the room. And just a few hours later, when my grandson is in bed, he'll want me to take him out of the cage to be held.

24X24 is as small as I would go and that would be if I had him out of the cage more than in the cage. 24X32 Would be much nicer, or if you have the space 32X40 or such. With the better size cage you can put a variety of toys where as the smaller cages have less room for toys, which they need if they spend any amount of time in their cages.

Mine is in a 36" x 24" cage and although it is sufficient I think a larger cage would have been better since she is in her cage most of the day. I bought a 24" deep cage so I could easily get it through doors.
