Question Showers

On a daily basis I give my teil and amazon "showers". they can not stand it. is there a way i can get them to enjoy the daily squirts?? I leave the squirt bottle out where Papa the amazon can see it but the second its in my hand he tries to hide behind his food bowls. with it being winter here i dont want to put him in the regular shower in fear that he will get to wet and maybe catch a chill. not that he likes those any better. the only bath he likes is in his water bowl but its not big enough for him to fit in. the teil just sits there and takes it but papa runs from it. advise??

I give my birds a good soaking on the week-ends AND a misting once or twice mid-week. They don't necessarily need one every day. I like to be around for the soaking day so I can keep an eye on them and don't let them catch a draft. The way I introduced them is when they would go to splash bath in their bowls, I would spray up and let the mist fall down on them. I also NEVER use the sprayer to stop them from doing anything that may seem annoying. I use room temperature water, and only water. I am currently working on introducing them to the 'People' shower.

P.S. I sing "Batbird" when I give my Oscar his shower. He covers his face with a wing we we first start...LOL He is the clown of our flock. Very annimated.

Amazon bath

Just get one of those stainless dog water bowls that wont tip over and fill it up with water your zon will use it to take his own bath and after a while he will start waiting on the top of the cage and calling for his bath bowl.

The best way to get most birds to start taking a bath in a new bowl is to turn on the vacume when the bird gets close to the bowl, i don't really know what makes birds start preening and taking baths when hey hear a vacume but it sure works with EVERY bird i have.

I would just keep misting the tiel because they don't need a full bath unless they are really dirty from playing/eating or they get poop on them.

John

PS: hey kev how hard would it be to add a spell checker to the forums?

John, what a great idea to use a dog bowl. I now have five 'zons who love to bathe in their water bowls but -- of course -- the bowls aren't big enough for their butts. As to the vacuum, it works every time! Yesterday I started moving things around in the bird room getting ready to vacuum and Rico immediately started immitating the vacuum cleaner. They, of course, wait until the room and cages are clean before taking their baths. I'm going out tomorrow to get a big, untippable dog bowl (or five).
