Sorry, I see your fellow is already wing trimmed. I tried to edit my post but waited too long.

This amazon's issue is that he will be nasty only when his favorite person is around. Of course, it's love at first sight for him and my 11 year old daughter LOL This little fellow has learned in his previous home that he can get away with agression; though, the familiy was relatively experienced with parrots and did quite a bit of research on the subject. I sure hope I am able to get him out of the habit.

I am also just learning about amazons ... I'm working with lots of positive re-inforcement for step-ups and covered time-out cage if he lunges. I limit time outs to 2 - 3 minutes. He also gets the evil eye and a rough "bad bird". I also started using a hand held perch if I have him step up near my daughter and then having him step up from the perch to my hand.

He will chill out, just give it time, patience... :)
please don't just 'trade him in' because he wasn't what you expected. That happens all too often to these poor birds. They just want a good home.
Hope it works out okay!

Great to hear that things are getting better!!! They sure will push the boundaries and if they get away with it ....

My guy is learning very quickly not to lunge and bite. Now he merely growls then raises his foot for step up LOL If I have any thought that he might actually bite, I use a hand held perch for him to step up on first. Works like a charm.

We have two cats ... earlier he few to the floor and started walking around ... after a few minutes I could hear "step up, step up". I walk over to Pyklas to see the cats checking him out. He sure stepped up nicely :-)

I agree give your BFA time. I have had my BFA female for about 2 months and well she is not my fan. She does however love my husband. As for trading for a Grey, good luck with that. They can be very sensitive. And can be 1 person birds. So you may trade for a bird who wants nothing to do with you and is terrified of your kids and will always want to hide in its cage. Amazons can be moody but will figure out that it is a long term thing. My bird has learned I am not going anywhere so she lets me do things she wouldn't let me do a month ago. And for breeding season most things say March but some say May.

I am not an expert but that is what I have learned from reading and others on this site.
