I made tapes for my birds. These tapes are of me repeating some of their vocabulary or reading a story for them. These are playe
by my bird sitters when I am on vacation or out of town. I find they also love to hear themselves talking. I have a couple of tapes that I play for them that is made of them talking. Joanie Doss The Amazing Amazons Amazon Parrots - Joanie Doss - Intro / Bio |

My bird likes swing music a lot, brian setzer type music. She loves the jump jive song. We also play our voices in between the songs. We say things like good bird, pretty bird and I love you. We play her 80s music too she leans closer for some of those songs also. When I leave for th grocery store I put it on adult top 40 (we have digital cable) for us it is 519, probably not the same for you, she seems to like that too. She is not into hard core metal or punk it freaks her out, me too, honestly.

This just cracked me up.... ![]() although I have to agree with you....my guys like the top 40 or 100...as long as it is easy listening with a jump and jive song thrown in once in a while...they are happy. I do have to admit that Handsome absolutely goes bonkers over AC/DC...starts chatting and dancing like it's nobody's business ![]() I think that birds are more like people than we realize...with their own likes and dislikes....we just have to figure it out ![]() |

I have played everything from opera to Dave Matthews for Davey. He doesn't seem to react to any of it. I always leave something on for him to listen to. Sometimes it is a playlist on my iPod, a book on tape, the t.v. or even his bird sitter video (he says hello when the birds scream...I don't think he thinks he's one of them). I've not heard that this encourages them to talk when no one is around but there could be something to it.

Jacob(my husband) leaves it on Rock and classic rock for her she likes it. She likes Ozzy. I think it is because dad sings along. She loves him and what he loves so that may be it.
She also likes rap only some songs I hope she doenst learn the words to some of the songs, so we now play the sensored versions. I dont want her to bust out with any offensive words from some of the songs. That could be hard to explain. But she hears Mack 10 and she starts to talk a ton. Everyone we know thinks it is the funniest thing.

I have a special playlist for my bird on my iPod. It's all opera, women singing high and loud. My BFA loves it! She even will try to sing herself, with a very exaggerated vibrato. It's hilarious!
I find classical stuff is the best overall. Flute music, oboe, violin. Typically higher instruments. Then again, when she hears Cher she starts singing too. |
