Need help with ID

I have two amazons that have bonded and now are breeding. Does anyone know what the mutation will look like or what it is called when a "Yellow Nape" and a "Green Cheek" cross?

Just an FYI- when they cross, its not a mutation. A mutation is genetic, something that can be passed down in the same species. Greencheeks and yellownapes are not the same species, so you will have hybrid babies.

They will be called "cuties", like any other amazons.

Hybrids. It would be the same as breeding a horse and a zebra together, or a lion and a tiger.

It is NO mutation. A mutation is an alteration of colors of the feathers and skin pigments within a single species. A hybrid is a mix of two separate species.

If you are to confuse a species with a mutation, then I urge you to separate the pair, do research on what is a species, what is a mutation, and what is a hybrid, as well as some of the possible problems when creating hybrids. That, and do more reading and research into breeding species. If you are financially stabled and can handle emergencies, and you have experience handraising, and you are interested in being a breeder and not a pet owner, then I would also suggest you to go out and buy a greencheek zon of the opposite sex of the one you have, as well as a yellow nape of the opposite sex you have... the pairing the SAME species together before allowing them to reproduce...

I stand corrected.. It was not my intention to let them breed, but they have their own wills. Can't stand in the way of nature. I guess if they were not meant to breed, then they wont. As it stands right now the female is in the nest box, and I will let ya'll know what the babies look like, if her eggs are even fertile. She may just be doing her thing right now.

Although hybrids do happen in the wild, in general they usually do not occur frequently enough for many people to take notice. If birds are not raised by their own parents it's possible that the birds will imprint on another species, and thus not know what species they are supposed to breed with...

Whooping Crane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One project by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Canadian Wildlife Service was initiated in 1975 involved cross-fostering with Sandhill Cranes to establish a second self-sustaining flock. Although 85 chicks from the 289 whooping crane eggs transplanted into Sandhill Crane nests learned to migrate[1], the whooping cranes failed to mate with other whooping cranes due to imprinting on their Sandhill foster parents; the project was discontinued in 1989.

However, there is a species of bird (forgot species ATM) that lays its eggs in the nest of other species, and the other species of birds raise the chick as their own. Somehow, these chicks raised by other species, know only to mate with their own...

Still, species who may have been parent raised, but have no available mates of their own species (and sometimes even when they do) will seek out mates of a separate species.

The subject of hybrids is a very touchy subject for many, while others could care less... I'm somewhat in the middle. I don't care for people to set up birds to produce hybrids, however, the offspring always amazes me!

I hope that you have the extra money in case of an emergency, and can handraise if the need arises. I also hope you have some breeders and/or avian vets who could help you out, as well. So with that in mind, I hope nothing goes wrong for you!
