Smile Amazon Molt

Does anyone know how long it takes for a 2 year old female Yellow Nape Amazon Parrot to molt? I am unable to get a definitive answer (i.e. 2-4 weeks, months, etc.)

Any information regarding the length of time for the completion of the molting cycle would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Because its hard to answer. Molting depends on health and diet and other factors in the birds life. My cockatoo seems to molt continuously but real heavy right now for about two months. She never seems to look raggedy like some birds can.

In captivity, Parrots molt for longer periods than in the wild. If you bird flies, they tend to molt a little quicker [just my own observation], as it seems to help loosen the old feathers to drop out. They don't molt all their feathers every year, our LCA which was flight trimmed when we got her two years ago, is still dropping an occasional feather that was trimmed. We have not trimmed her feathers as she seemed to have not been able to fledge as a young bird and thus being 'clumbsy'. I feel every bird should be able to learn to fly before any flight feathers are trimmed, and then only trimmed if they need to be. They seem to molt most of their 'down' type feathers every year. Our dove molts almost all her down type feathers in about two weeks. There are days when she gets flapping in her cage and you'ld think someone had a pillow fight......
