Festive Amazon Re-home

I have the opportunity to possibly get a 40 year old Festive Amazon.

I don't know too much about him yet other than his first owner, a 90 year old woman, had to move to a condo that did not allow pets and made an arrangement with the new owners of her house to keep the bird. The new homeowners are not "pet people." They have had him for the last two years and say that the magic has worn off essentially. They seem concerned that he go someplace where he will stay and that will provide an excellent home, rather than just wanting rid of him, so that's good at least.

I need to know what questions to ask and what to look for. I will be researching as much as possible online.

Help! I need your expertise!

Well you already know the age.You can ask about the diet.it's likes and dislikes as far as food, treats and toys. The name of it's avian vet and the last time it's been there. If it likes other birds. How long they have had it?I hope this helps you.

I am so utterly excited. I just can't stand it. I will hopefully know more later on tonight. This is unbearable!!!

I talked to my husband about it and he is in full agreement that we should pursue getting this bird if he sounds like he will fit in without too many bumps in the road.

I will have to take a 7-hour ferry, then drive 5 hours just to get to him...planning on doing that later this week unless we hear something about him that absolutely turns us completely off.

I have already written the email with tons of questions so I have been sitting here at the laptop checking and checking and checking just waiting to hear back!!! Can you tell I am just a little bit excited?

I hope everything goes well for you and you get to rehome the amazon! I'm sure you've thought of about everything to ask by now. Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly.

Thank you!!

I just heard back from a bird rescue person who lives nearby to where Charlie is. He went to see him and said that he was an awesome bird. Hoping to talk to the owners this evening, and hoping to plan my ferry trip for tomorrow night or day after tomorrow!!!

AAAAAck I hate feeling this excited! Makes me almost nauseous.

Charlie the Festive Amazon

Here he is...isn't he a beauty? SIGH. I hope I get to meet him and bring him home.

40 years old...can you imagine the things he's seen in his life?

I feel so bad that his first owner, the elderly lady, had to give him up.

I am sure that he comes with everything. I know that he talks a lot but don't know what he says. If he cusses, well, I guess he cusses! I hope he doesn't either though it would be a great source of mirth for my son if he did. LOL

His name is Charlie.

"Erpy" perfectly describes how I feel! Couldn't sleep very well last night. Charlie was the last thing on my mind before I slept and the first thing when I woke this morning!
