Unhappy YC Amazon?
Hi All
Ok, my boyfriend has a YC Amazon called Charlie. Charlie often comes to stay with me if Mark has to go away overnight for work. Over the last couple of years I've shot lots of video of Charlie, some of which I've uploaded to You Tube. Charlie is a happy, healthy, noisy, unclipped (although he mainly chooses to climb rather than fly) bird who is only shut in his cage at night. You can see all Charlie's videos HERE. Anyway! My reason for posting is this, a comment left on one of his videos. I was furious (as you can tell from my reply!!) to say the least! But now I can't help wondering if this is how others perceive Charlie? I know he is a very happy bird but please tell me what you think as I'm now full of self-doubt and it's not a feeling I'm enjoying Does this bird (in the video clip below) look unhappy to you? Bear in mind he was sleepy at the time as you can see by his drooping eyelids! YouTube - Charlie The Amazon Parrot Chatting Thanks for taking the time to watch! Pip |

He looks like the picture of contentment to me. What a cute little guy. It sounds like you and your boyfriend love the little guy and take good care of him. Don't let a random comment from someone who knows nothing of your situation make you feel bad. If this person was a vet or animal behavioralist who visited your home then you might give the comment some credence but no one can make a determination based on a three minute clip other than that he isn't plucked, has a clean looking cage with plenty of toys and talks pretty well. I love the videos. I hope one bad comment won't deter you from posting more.

I've seen some truly sad looking parrots on You Tube in the past (plucked, fluffed up etc) but I just can't understand why this woman thinks Charlie looks unhappy! It's been pointed out to me that one of the woman's interests is animal rights. That's all well and good so long as her efforts aren't aimed at the wrong people! Cheers Tom! ![]() |

Yes, Charlie settles in straight away when he comes to stay with me. Obviously he sees me most days at Mark's house too which helps but it's great the way in which he appears to see both places as safe and not at all scary! |

![]() Tee hee! The one with him laughing while exploring underneath the newspaper? That made me laugh so much! It was handy I had my phone with me at the time to record him doing it! |

I think he looks happy. He looks a little like Jezz when she walks to her cage to go to sleep. He even has the nap time fluff we see with Jezz. And as for letting him out to roam the house, does she want your bird to get hurt. There is so much stuff they can get into(everything in the kitchen, cords, yucky stuff in trash cans and tons of other stuff). We have the cage right next to the playstand with a ladder that connects them and she goes in between them all day long. She is allowed to be in other rooms only when we are there to watch her.
I agree with Berger 232004. If you listen to some of these people we all need to let our birds go free outside. I think Jezz would fly away and then come right back when she decided she was hungry. She doesn't really like the foraging toys(unless she can destroy them), she just drops them and goes to her bowl to eat.
