Just looking for some insight and what to expect... They are very loving and step up really well...Both are starting to talk .. they are 9 months old...
They get along with all the family .. We have had Tiels and Keet for a long time these are our first parrots.. any suggestions or advise?

Hi there - and welcome to BirdBoard! I just love the Lilacs! What did you name them? Are they from the same clutch?

I have a Salvin's Red Lored - and he's my first Amazon, so I am sure that others can give you better advice.

Can you post a pic of your new additions?

Welcome!! I adore amazons! I have 5 myself. ;~) But have never met a Lilac Crown in person. I do know someone who used to breed them and she has such great things to say about them. Have your little ones been sexed? If not, I would suggest doing that so you can be better prepared as they mature. Please post some photos!!

We rescued these 2 amazons for a local pet store.. They were there for several months... They really needed home! I will post Pic's this eve or tomorrow.( could someone lend me a hand in posting?) I would love any advise on getting them sexed would be grateful..The pet store would not give us the name or number of the breeder.. the are believed to be bothers form the same clutch... They seem to have a bit of seperation anxiety.. but get along well... We have them in the same cage ( which is 40x30x52)

We named them Achillies ( from Troy) and Aragorn ( from the Lord Of The Rings) Both are very friendly... Do not Bite hard.... and are starting to talk...
The pet store told us they were 8 months old( which would make them about nine now) Their wings and clipped from being at the pet store but we are hoping the grow back quick. Aragorn is able to fly with a bit of list but Achillies has none!

Hi J-J-Lenhart,
You should take them to the vet for a phyical check-up and basic bloodwork (wellness exam) so that you have a baseline in the future should there be a problem. You can have them sexed while there (vet will send off for DNA test). Or, you can send away for a kit from Avian Biotech and prepare a feather or blood sample yourself and send it in. But do get them into an Avian vet for a wellness exam.

I have my Orange Wing and Red Lored in tha tsame size, dometop, cage together. They will be two this Spring. They get along very well, but I have been thinking of getting another cage because as their personalities develop more and more, Aspen tends to be so bold and Willow more reserved and I worry that Willow may be pushed around. I've thought of either getting the double macaw cage and outting them in it still together but with them having more room, and I've also thought about getting a separate cage altogether. I may do neithter. I'll continue to observe them carefully.

Where are you located? PErhaps someone can point you in the direction of a good avian vet . . .

Sincerely,
Amy

Amy

Thanks for the input... I am in central Ohio and have been recommended to an aviarian vet by a local breed.. Here is the link to his website! Check it out
http://hartmanaviary.com/
He has been really helpful... He advised not adopting more or less from the pet store.( for all the right reasons). Which i could understand but these birds are what I would call rescued..... He has an awesome set up with many many breeds and huge outdoor flight cages.. He is open for tours and you are able to hold babies and interact with his birds.. Have you ever seen the Bird sitter videos? those are his! We have made an appointment towards the end of the month for a vet in Renoldsburg.OH...

Yeah! Maia's parents came from Hartman Aviary and I have heard wonderful things about him, his birds, and his setup there.

I have Birdsitter DVD - and my birds could care less - but I just love to watch it!

Good luck to you! I can't wait to see your pictures!

Awwww! I just love them! Thanks so much for sharing!

Here is a photo of my Aspen and one of my Cuban boys, I took their photos and a friend put them in those wonderful backgrounds . . .

Aspen looks similar to a Lilac Crown but you can tell she is not from her beak coloration.
