Rescued Blue Fronted Amazon From Death Row.

We recieved a call yesterday from a no kill shelter, they had picked up an Amazon from an older couple who were going to put him down, they even had an apointment booked!

The lady from the no kill shelter drove two hours today to bring the Amazon Zach to Calgary.

He has agression issues, was flighted and his toe nails we L-O-N-G. So the first thing we did was clip his wings and toe nails. He was originally fed pizza, cookies, chips, hot dogs, etc, So we started him on harrisons pellets and vegetables.

When the lady gave us his belongings there was black mold growing in his chew toys and chips and cookies in his bag of seeds.

Yes, we did Rescue him and his cage smells AWFUL!

But he is such a babe! We can give him scratches on his head and pick him up without losing a finger! He says Hi like no ones business too! I don't know why the couple wanted him to be put down....

OMG! We found old moss, and bugs in the food that came with him! I feel so bad for that little guy! The old couple had him for five years! All he had was sand paper perches, the couple literally stapled on sand paper to his perches! There was also alot of metal that could be toxic for his health.

WOW. He must feel like he hit the lottery going from squalor to what I imagine now is the life of a king.

You know I'm going to say it...any pictures you can share with us?

Congrats on your newest addition. I second Toms request......PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES. I feel so bad for him. How lucky is that little guy to go to a home like yours. He probably feels like they kept the apt and he is in heaven. How old is he and is he DNA'ed male? They may not have known enough to do that(based on what they fed him). Good luck with your new guy.

PS We are jealous you can already scratch him. We still can only pet the beak of our little angel.

Keep us updated on your babies progress.

I cant believe that they were going to put him down, I am sure that Zach thinks they should be, not him. I hate to see the things people who have no clue do to their birds. Have they never heard of research? Maybe he was mean to them, if so my guess would be that it was due to a poor diet and they didnt treat him properly.

Anyway, again CONGRATS and Good Luck with your new baby.

Yes pics would be good. I am so happy for him that you took him in. He sounds pretty happy too. I would definately take him to the vet for a thorough exam. Sounds like he has been really mis-treated and neglected. Kudos to you for giving this guy a new chance at a great life. Enjoy!!
