I would just leave him be for awhile, aside from feeding him and such. I would just keep him in the cage for awhile until the tension settles down. I would still talk sweetly to the little guy, but I think I would just let him set in the cage for a bit. I think the two of you have battled wits a little too much this week. A little distance might do the both of you some good.

OK, so here is something scary. I decided to post Jasper on Petfinder classifieds--figured I might get a better class of responders there. Look what I had in my in box this am:

Hello,
My name is Wallace Timmy and my wife Terresa Timmy was able to
came across your advert today concerning the pet adoption you posted for
sale on Petfinder.com and i am much interest in re_ homing your pet at
a companion and also a member of my family, because i have passion and
care for pet.i spent much of my time taking care of my lost pet and i
lost her on my way taking her to vet clinic for neuture, since then live
has been unbearable for my family expecially mydaughter who care for
pet more that anything she does.
I'm a christain and i live in ROCKLAND IN DE DELAWARE US and My house
was wood fenced and 8.87fts high, i have enough garden in my premises
where the pet can roam about.. i have 2 daughters and a son.
i will appreciate it if you can assure me 100% that you will be able to
let me re-home yours in replacement of my lost one.i dont know how
happy my daughter Benita and her brother mark will be to see another pet
in replacement.You dont
have to long for how to ship the pet.i will handle that my self with
care. so i want you to get back to me with the adoption fees, present
health condition, price, and pictures if available for more satisfaction.
P.S: After getting to a better compromise, i will be paying with a
check in us dollars and i'll instruct my TRUSTEE in the state to issue a
check on your behalf which will include the price of the pet.you need to
get all this info to me as well as to issue the check as soon as
possible.
Name to be written on th e certified American check;
Home address ,
Phone Number;
City;
Zip Code;
State;
plz get back to me
Wallace Timmy

And another:

I am Rev Jerry Morgan ,International pastor good around the world for
a missonaries purposes.,I spent my quaterly holidays with my families
house in US.i was searching thru the net and i came across ur posted
ad which u posted for adoption on the posted Ads.plz i will like to
know if it still available or any other's one for my purchase and also
will like to know the conditions.because I was thinking about
travelling far away so i want to purchase this pet for my
children/family So that they won't be lonely Since I'm not home..and
i will be needing it as soon as possible ..So i will like to see the
health papers (if any)can get back to me soon...waiting to hear from
you
Rev Jerry M.

What the hell? One of them doesn't even realize it's a BIRD I'm rehoming! Who are these people? Do you think they actually succeed in picking up pets this way? And what do they DO with them?

These are definetly scams. When I was adopting out my finches two years ago, I got many of the same replies. They want you to send $$ to get the health certificates and other items needed to ship, then the poor bird, if they are shipped, ends up at the airport without someone there to pick it up.

I specified that the person needed to come pick up the bird and pay cash. Someone who is really interested, will do this. The others I called them out on being scammers and they quickly left me alone. The poor grammar tips you off pretty quickly about the scams. They mass mail every adoption ad and hope to get some money from each person, they aren't really interested in the pet.

Good grief... you poor thing. I am sorry, but I am laughing so hard right now. It seems you and Jasper the wonder bird were meant to be together. I would start coming to terms with the idea that you may be together for awhile.

I'm glad my misadventures are bringing you amusement. But seriously, today I was downstairs where Jasper is, along with Polly and my Sun and lovie. I have Optimus in the garage until she is through with quarantine. Since I brought Opti home, I've had it in my mind that I would give away her (old) cage with Jasper when I rehome him, instead of giving away the brand-new, $320 cage I bought for him. This afternoon while I was doing laundry, I realized that I was thinking about how I could reorganize the room to fit in one more large cage. So, unconsciously it seems, I'm thinking about how I can fit Jasper into the household when Opti finishes her quarantine. I dunno--I have an appointment for Wednesday for another guy to come meet Jasper. He sounds very reluctant about Jasper's aggressiveness--but that might be a good thing. At least I know he's really thinking about Jasper's personality and about dealing with him long-term. IF the guy actually shows up, I'll see how Jasper reacts to him. But in the meantime, I wonder if my parents would mind storing that big old brown chair for a while...

I am not laughing at your misadventures, not in the sense to be mean. You have to admit those responses you posted were nothing less than funny. It just seems that the more you try to do the right thing, the weirder the response/feedback you receive to your attempts. I really, sincerelly hope all works out for both you and Jasper. You really are in my thoughts and prayers. If you were a bit closer, I would bring over a six pack and go through the motions with you cause I have been where you are before with a Yellow Collared Macaw I brought home (knowing he was nothing but mean and agressive) years ago. There were many days where I thought what I have I gotten myself into here. Things worked out though. I kept him, he eventually warmed up and turned out to be a sweetheart of a bird. He was the best thing I ever "stuck out". I had to tap into my reserve account in the "patience" department. I bought alot of band-aids. I cried alot. Me and Sully became really really good friends. He passed away in January, I miss him everyday. I know he left this world happier than when I found him. I was his "chance." I learned alot from Sully.

I know you weren't being mean. I was being silly--I was hoping the smileys would convey that. It's wonderful to hear success stories from other people. Just read a really great article on Amazon hormones, too. Really made me think about the fact that Jasper is at the prime age for raging hormones, not to mention this is the prime hormone season, not to mention the fact that his whole life has been through TWO upheavals in several months. I know people on Birdboard have mentioned all of these, but it just didn't click in my mind until I read this article. Helped me appreciate where he's coming from a lot more.
