So, though I'd love to give this guy a chance, it sticks in my craw that he thinks I should hand Jasper over for $200.00, including his cage. I don't think he could touch a hand-fed, fully-vetted, perfect feather, young amazon parrot, with cage, for $200, regardless of temperament. I've never even seen a breeder selling for that little. So I'm not sure what to do now...I want what's best for Jasper, but I don't want to feel like I'm being taken advantage of either.
People like this you have to beware of... especially Craigs List. He sounds like the type to con you out of your bird for $200.00 and then next week you will see your bird for sale as a beloved pet for $600.00. Somebody who is really interested in the bird and has good intentions will pay the re-homing fee and be understanding to your investment. I wouldnt do it.

Sounds like this guy is trying to low ball you. Forget him and move on to someone else.. Some people out there do this with every intention of reselling at a profit. I would proceed with caution. If I were close to you I would take him in a heartbeat.

Yep, that was my inclination. There is another couple who is interested, and they didn't say anything about the fee. So they're coming over on Sunday. It can't hurt for me to meet people, I suppose. If I don't feel exactly right about it, I don't have to sell him, right?

No, if you feel this is the right thing for you and Jasper you have to make sure he leaves your care with the right person. YOU have to feel right about who you allow to adopt him. Your first feeling about someone is usually the right one. When the right person comes along you will know it... and so will Jasper.

Yes, I agree I know for myself... cause I have done it. I have paid the re-homing fee a couple of times. That someone who really finds the connection with your bird and wants it for the "right" reasons, will not have a problem. Price is generally not negotiable if the bird has been vetted and well cared for such as you have done with Jasper. What you are asking is more than reasonable. Someone who truly wants him will pay the price. $200.00 is an insult to you and to Jasper. The guy probably has no bird experience at all. Just looking to make a buck off of your good intentions.

Thanks everyone. I'm such a mush--it's nice to see that I have the support of others. I'm really bad at listening to my gut for a variety of reasons, but I'm working on it, and getting better.

I think your fee is real high for a bird that did that to your arm and you dont want anymore.Really anyone willing to give that bird a good home and tame/train/get bittenby him /will be doing you a nd the bird a big favor and lucky to find someyone willing to give him a permanant home.

I don't know... I would pay $400 for a fully vetted bird with cage... especially if the person WAS honest and told me about the injury they sustained!

I really do think that it just matters on the person. I am willing to bet that there is a person out there that will walk right up to Jasper and he will jump right onto their hand and make the Amazon goo-goo eyes at! I really HAVE seen it happen. Or there is someone that has owned Amazons and is willing to work with him knowing darn well what they are in for and what that beak is able to do to them.

I do not know what kind of cage is going with him... but a halfway decent Amazon beak proof cage is a good $150-$200!

Stand firm on the price... unless that person he goes ga-ga for really does show up. Then you can dicker if you wish... or make payment arrangements if needed. Granted, you may get stiffed... but if you would be willing to dicker or even forgo the fee... getting $75 a month for five months or so might just work for EVERYONE!
