Update on Mr. Peeps and Handsome.

Well..been gone for a while with summer vacation and what not so I thought that I would share with you guys Mr. Peeps and Handsomes 6 month pictures. They are growing well and eating and talking like crazy. Haven't found much that they don't like. I do have a question for other Amazon owners out there. Do you have any tricks to keeping them quiet? My two love to make noise when my husband comes home and that is the worse time to make that nice LOUD Amazon screech that they make. They have all kinds of foraging toys and normal toys, things to tear apart and wood to chew. I haven't found anything that will keep their attention for long....any suggestions? Hi they are beautiful xx I have Gizmo who is five yo male. In relation to keeping him quiet, i find talking to him in a soft voice brings his noise levels down lol Do they let you touch them, I also do the voice thing and touch thing together, this seems to intrigue him. As for playing well he makes the normal noises, appears to be enjoying himself etc
I find branches keeps Gizmo's attention for a while x

They have been hand fed and handled since they were 3 weeks and love to be petted and loved...I will try putting some new branches in there and see if that will help....ultimately I would like to have them learn to be quiet when they see the hubby and if getting a good treat each time they see him would do it then that's what it will be.....

I ignore my guys when they are screaming and give treats, rewards and attention when they are quiet or making nicer, quiet noises, whistles or talking. I've read the worst thing to do is react, yell, or reward when they are screaming because they won't see it as a diversion but encouragement to try the screaming again.

I wouldn't give them treats when they are noisey. Like Tom said this would encourage them to think that every time they want a treat they scream. I would talk softly and even sing songs or what I did with my gray.... when my husband came home say "honey I'm home" and now whenever he or I come home he says it the minute we enter the house. It's so cute.

Ignoring them seems to make them scream longer and louder. Usually they do it more when they are out of the cage....so I find that when they scream I go over, say step up and promptly put them in their cage. If it is ony one that is carrying on then that one goes in by himself. If they continue then the cage gets covered..something that they seem to not like. So far over the past week I have been getting some pretty good results with this approach. If they are quiet for 5 minutes then they are let back out and of course the time gets lengthened if they continue. Ignoring I think would work but there is no way that we all can stand that noise for more than a minute, their cage is right in our lower level of our house and it is a big open area so a combo of dining and living room just off kitchen and this is where my family is 90% of the time. I also try to keep the beak as busy as I can with whatever I can find. I will try the "honey I am home" because they seem like fast learners. Already get kisses and good mornings in the morning when cleaning cages and some how are you's....they are so sweet, just wish the hubby would see the sweeter side......lol. Do you all think that this approach will continue to work or am I expecting them to understand too much? Or by going over to the cage it is enforcing the behavior? When I go over there is no sweet talk though...just step up and in the cage for a time out.....Thanks all....

Ahhh, the time out approach. I've tried that with my lilac crown and yes it has worked some what. Maybe if only one is noisey and get's time out you could reward the one being quiet and they will get it that way. Good idea about getting them things to keep there beaks and minds busy. Oh when I get dressed for work my gray also says "time to make the donuts." He's so smart.
