How long breeding season for red lored?

A fellow parrot club member has taken on an older wild-caught red lored Amazon. The bird is in the throws of hormones at the moment and my acquaitance would like to know how loing she and her husband can expect to be subjected to his awfull behavior. I know (as she does) that he needs behavior modification training but now is not the time to be teaching him manners. Bijou was rescued by myself from a rather unpleasant stint he had at a petshop where he was kept in a cockatiel sized cage for many years. Before he lived at the store he was at an SPCA completely plucked except for of course his head. He has had a rather sad history and is pretty easy to get along with when not horny and ornery. I have already suggested that she shower him less freqently, keeping it to once a week for now rather than every few days, reducing the amount of rich food in his diet, and reducing the amount of daylight he's exposed to. He has also been living in a room with a breeding pair of lovebirds which would not be helping the situation and has fallen in love with, and tried to mate with, another lovebird. The lovebird pair will be leaving as well and he's no longer in physical contact with his tiny girlfriend.

And you think you've got problems? Sorry, not to make light of this poor fella, but he sure is swimming upstream these days, isn't he? I now have six 'zons and the hormones are running rampant through my house. I'll be SO glad when it all ends for the year.

Six and five huh? Sounds like it'd be a fun season at your houses.

I forgot to mention that this little fellow was wild caught and is probably between 17 and 22 years old. What is the usual length of time Amazons are hormonal?

Frank, I don't know but around my house it's definitely tooooooooooo long! Of course, living in Florida we always have lots of hours of daylight.

I've been told that by the late teens they should start calming down, but one of my guys is over 20 and is still VERY hormonal. I guess it's individual to the bird.

I have three confirmed females, two confirmed males and one that one of the confirmed males responds to as though he/she were a female. One of these days I'll have little Andy tested to settle my curiosity.

I went on an internet search and found out the breeding season is from February untill June. Bijou is VERY bad these days. He goes out of his way to attack and will jump in peoples faces from his playgym. Some behavior modification when he's out of breeding mode are definitely in order to establish the caregiver's dominance.
