Age of an amazon

Hi,
I'm new here and I wonder if anyone can help me. Perhaps it's not even the right forum but... I have an Orange Wing who's lived with me for 18 years and was an adult when I got her. I was told she was 3 years old at the time, which seems to be a popular age, often quoted by bird sellers. Anyhow Ricky had a band which indicated that she had come through a quarantine station in Florida (she's a wild caught bird). I have phoned all over the US trying to find out what, if anything, the script on the band means; with no luck. The band says: FBV 877. Is there any way to find out? Thanks,
Ralph

Hi Ralph!
I think if you do a search there is a post on here about what the band numbers mean. Meanwhile, I would love to see photos of your bird. Orange Wings are Awesome!

Orange Wings are awesome. A woman who works part-time in the rectory has had an orange wing for 25 years. I think her stories helped get the wheels turning in my mind that I needed to get a parrot. Two parrots later I guess I can at least place the initial blame at her feet.

Hi. if your bird was an import..there is no way to tell her age. Amazons are very hard to age just by looking at them....you could have her scoped and a vet could look at her reproductive organs and venture a guess that way...the band is probably the initials of the importer and a specific ID number asigned to the bird..probably all meaningless at this point.

I agree with Kevin.. I could never trace my wildcaught amazons age, either.
