I had a little white fronted amazon who never gave off that smell. Tigger does any time he is excited or stressed. The smell grows on you, I don't mind it at all, but at first was like what the heck?
I went to a worskshop put on by Barbara Hidenreich (sp) and Robin Shewolski (sp). Robin suggested using scents in enrichment activities. She made the interesting comment that researchers are not sure how well parrots smell. But if you think about it, the amazon smell should serve some purpose. Maybe they can smell the scent? So could we use scent in enrichment the way zoos add lavender oil to lions enrichment toys? It was something to think about
